General surgery

Surgery, a key medical domain, is concerned with the treatment of diseases, wounds and malformations through the means of an operation, by conducting mechanical interventions, or using medical instruments on or within the organism.

A surgeon treats diseases or lesions through the means of an operation, such as osteosynthesis, in order to reduce bone fractures. Nowadays, we increasingly employ modern techniques, such as the laser, endoscope or even robots. Traditional methods, such as a plaster cast or splints continue to be used, when more appropriate to the condition.

Numerous surgeons specialize within a specific domain of the body, such as the heart, blood vessels or the brain.
