In radiology, external procedures are employed to obtain images of the organs within the body. The most famous example of these is certainly the radiographic image, obtained through the use of the X-Ray However, the radiologist is not only the specialist of radiology, but also of more recent examination methods, such as sonography, computed tomodensitometry (CT) and magnetic resonance imagery (MRI). These examinations are frequently employed to visualize the location and size of a lesion, tumor or hemorrhage. Especially in the cases of diseases affecting the brain, spine or internal organs, these methods are often applied. The radiologist is responsible for interpreting the results of these examinations. They also employ certain of these methods, in combination with special medication, in order to obtain a better image of an organ. They know how to establish in which cases to use these substances, named contrast products, what their effects are, and what susceptible issues may arise during their application. |
